vessel

The story of her making. I began this piece desiring to express what I felt inside - to capture a pose I kept repeating in my dance . Reaching into experimentation, I created the form with an external armature - the pose not quite right and the play of trying richly feeding me. I swaddled her to dry.

...and then my Dad died...

I unwrapped Vessel months later - expecting to throw her away - to find that I had opened her on the last day possible that she could be carved - a blessing that feels full of meaning. I added markings of her journey and she survived the fire - embracing it to make her stronger. Layers of self-potrait.

...and yet she was not done...

She was unglazed - however in these months I had been building a Temple for the Regional Burning Man - made of steel I would come home after a day of devotion, my hands covered in the black of temple making - grease. It was with these sacredly devoted hands I carressed her - caressing her & the markings of her journey - that they may be seen & honored. In completion, I blessed her with Palo Santo Ash.
